All the Small Things #2
Here's another round of small things that have bothered me recently. One of them isn't actually that small of a thing in terms of how enraged it makes me, but I refuse to write a full blog post about it because fuck that guy.
Nuisance "hackers"
I woke up this morning to see ~an attempt~ had been made to "hack" this blog via the comments. It was probably one of the most unsophisticated things I've ever seen in my years on the internet, but it got me thinking about what exactly the point of hacking a personal blog would be. The only thing I could come up with is that they're annoyed I have an opinion that doesn't match theirs and they wanted to be a minor inconvenience (especially because they did it on a post about how much shit I already have to deal with in a day).
I mean, it's great that you have all this free time on your hands, but maybe find something better to do with it? I recommend starting your own blog and writing about how stupid you think I am. It'll help you work through it all.
"It's not my job to educate you!"
I agree with the general sentiment behind this. You're not getting paid to educate people. Absolutely. But if you're going to make a claim, you have to be prepared to back it up. If someone asks you to elaborate because they don't quite understand the point you're making, elaborate! If someone asks for sources, give them the fucking sources. Don't want to be asked for sources? Provide them upfront. You're being just as lazy as they are by not giving them what they've asked you for.
We also shouldn't be gatekeeping education while all this anti-intellectualism bullshit is going on. And yes, refusing to provide people with information they're genuinely asking for, even if it's obvious that they intend to use it to try to prove you wrong or whatever, is gatekeeping.
Peripheral neuropathy
Being that I cannot take any of the medications that even begin to touch nerve pain due to their tendency to drop my blood pressure so low that the risks outweigh the benefits, PN flares are THE FUCKING WORST. It's not just the pain that's frustrating to deal with, but the fact that most of my nerve pain is in my head, neck, and shoulders which also causes weird sensations like dizziness and triggering post-nasal drip so bad that I throw up. I haven't had a flare this bad in quite some time, so it's really bumming me the hell out.
Council permits
Last year, after suffering through yet another disabling summer (heat is a massive trigger for me), we got a quote to get air conditioning installed in our living room/my office and our bedroom. The original quote was totally reasonable, but it required two outdoor units. The one for the bedroom had to be placed on top of the dormer, which is visible to the street. In order to do that, we needed a permit from the council.
Except the whole process would have taken forever (potentially after this coming summer), and likely would have been denied because there is simply no way to make it look "nice" up there. So, we opted to have both of the indoor units connected to just the one outdoor unit that isn't visible from the road. You know what that did to the quote? It almost doubled. Thanks for that, Mr. Bureaucracy!
But honestly, I don't mind paying more if it means I can make it through as many future summers as we have left without any extra fuckery from the season itself.
Donald Fucking Trump & Friends
I really don't even know where to start with this asshole, so I won't. Just know that I fucking despise him and his crew and I can't wait for all of them to be gone. By whatever means necessary at this point. No more moral high ground, "you shouldn't wish death on anyone" bullshit! If they die, they die. It's really the least they deserve.
