Oh, you've arrived. Wonderful. Sit down, or don't. It makes absolutely no difference to me.

You've found my little corner of poorly curated fury, where I write about everything that both interests and irritates me. It was born from a desperate need to stop poisoning my personal website with such negative energy. It's a space of catharsis, dressed up with the theme of my favourite Disney villain, Mad Madam Mim from The Sword in the Stone. Because why shouldn't I inject some whimsy into my rage?!

And You Are?

I go by Moxie in these parts, and I am:

I feel as though I've been alive long enough to understand how the world works, but for whatever reason, it still insists on completely confuddling me on a daily basis. With my biological deficiency of dopamine in play, this tends to send me into many minor meltdowns that can only be fixed with a good ol' fashioned bash on the keyboard. I may be of fairly recent British stock, but keeping calm and carrying on is definitely not in my blood.

Relevant Points

Some things it's probably good to know about me specifically for the purposes of this blog, because they alter how I view and experience the world:

• I was born right in the middle of the Millennial generation, so I have the sense of entitlement that comes with being promised and not getting certain things by Boomers.
• I am an immigrant from a working class background. I was born and grew up in Aotearoa New Zealand and migrated to the Netherlands in my late 20s.
• I am a socially progressive economic centrist who prioritises her social views over her economic ones. So, not a liberal, as commonly assumed.
• I have multiple disabilities, caused by chronic illness and neurodivergence (ADHD, specifically, which has given me an absolutely ridiculous sense of justice).
• I benefit from the following privileges: I am a white-passing biracial cisgender woman in a hetero-facing marriage. We are financially comfortable (but I am not independently wealthy) and we own our own home. I am educated to a postgraduate level, and although I don't fluently speak the language of the country I live in, I do speak one that's fairly universal.
• I am obnoxiously self-aware. To the point where therapists will tell me they can't help me because I already know what my problems are and how to fix them 🙃.

Notes On The Realm

• This blog is powered by Django and the current theme was designed & developed by me. It should be accessible on all devices and with or without JavaScript enabled.
• Fonts used are Amortem and Enchant for headings, Crimson Pro for all other text, and Noto Emoji for emoji.
• Tooltips are handled by Balloon.css.
• The current profile picture in the sidebar is AI-generated, but nothing else (knowingly) is.
• I have used some fairly flowery language throughout the theme to keep the Madam Mim vibes going, but in many cases, tooltips will provide plain English translations on hover.
• Because I am based in the EU and have a comments section which collects data, I legally have to provide a privacy policy. You can also find the commenting policy on the same page.
• I have profiles on Bluesky and Mastodon that you can follow for blog updates, if you're over there, and you can also subscribe to the blog via the Dreadful Dispatches RSS feed.
